3 Post-Winter Home Projects to Tackle This Spring

The harsh winter weather is starting to subside, and you might notice your home looks a little worse for wear. Now that spring is nearly upon us, it’s the perfect time to start tackling those exterior home improvement projects you’ve been thinking about for the past few months. Because of its mild weather, this is the best season to get outside work done. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy your home all summer and you won’t have to worry about performing additional maintenance for a long time to come. Here are just three examples of outdoor home projects to spruce up your home this spring.

  1. Roof Repairs

Your roofing needs to be in good condition in order to protect your home and family from the elements. Wind, ice, and snow can take a toll on your roof. Be sure to check for shingles that have blown off and get them replaced right away. If you’ve noticed any recent leaks, your roof may be the culprit. And if you need roof replacement, you’ll want to get that done before the hot summer sun arrives.

  2. Siding Replacement

Like your roof, your siding may have taken a beating this winter. If it’s become damaged or warped, you’ll likely need siding repairs; if the problem is widespread, you should consider total siding replacement. That’s also the case if your siding looks dated or your house looks dull. The upside to siding replacement is that you can choose a style that better fits your taste and won’t require a lot of upkeep. For example, vinyl siding can be made to imitate other materials and can last for 40 years when it’s maintained properly.

  3. Gutter Cleaning

In winter, it can be difficult to clear out clogged gutters. But if your home has water damage that can’t be attributed to a leaky roof, it might be a gutter-related issue. Once all the snow has melted, you have the opportunity to clean out those gutters and determine whether any of them need to be replaced.
