Questions to Ask Your Potential Roofing Contractor Before Hiring

Replacing a roof is a big job for experienced professionals. You want to make sure that the work is done properly. So, instead of trying to complete the project themselves, many people turn to hiring a contractor for the task.

If you decide to hire a contractor, there are a few things you should ask them before giving them the job. Roof repair and replacement aren’t easy, so you want to make sure you’re getting the best of the best. Here’s what you should ask.

What is the full name of the company you work for and where are you located?
If you have any doubts about the roofers or roofing company, you should do some investigative work. If the contractor tells you that their company doesn’t have a physical location, that’s concerning. Without a physical location, where do they meet? Where do they store all of their tools and information?

What’s the deal with your insurance?
Any roofing contractor should have workers compensation and liability insurance at the very least. Since they will be working on the roof of your home, if they were to fall off, you don’t want to be responsible. Checking on their insurance is mainly to protect you as a homeowner. However, it’s also a good indication of whether or not they’re responsible and reliable.

Do you have references?
When you’re speaking with the contractor, it’s important to ask them if they have any references from other clients. You can read these references, but also reach out to the past clients to find out more about their work quality. The past clients should give you an honest answer. They might even be able to tell you more than what’s on paper about the contractor.

Each year, the roof contracting industry generates an estimated $46 billion of revenue in the United States. While it is such a major industry, you want to make sure that you’re working with the best out there. Ask your potential contractor the questions listed above before making a decision.
